Olivia Dunne celebrated her boyfriend Paul Skenes turning 22 on Wednesday with a heartfelt Instagram tribute as he dominated on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Dunne, 21, posted three pictures to her Instagram story about Skenes, the first showing them hugging on the field after he made his MLB debut earlier in May - when the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs.

The second showed Skenes sat opposite Dunne at an Indianapolis steakhouse, but the young couple didn't celebrate on Wednesday night itself, given that Skenes was playing in a 10-2 win over Detroit Tigers.

He gave up two runs and three hits in six innings, striking out nine. Dunne shared video of his performance and captioned it: 'nothing like some b-day Ks'.

Dunne put an emoji of a birthday cake next to her caption but Skenes revealed that he would be celebrating with something else on his way back from Detroit to Pittsburgh.

'I heard we’ve got Chick-fil-A on the plane,' he said. 'I'll be crushing some of that.'

While the fast-food chicken sandwiches might seem to some a surprise meal for a professional athlete, Skenes is a little bit of a unique case.

A recent report by ESPN claimed Skenes can burn up to 5,000 calories a game when he's throwing his 100mph fastballs.

A staffer at LSU - where both Skenes and Dunne went to college - was quoted as saying that honey was his main source of fuel for games.

'Paul would go through half a bear a game,' the source said.

Skenes and Dunne confirmed their relationship last summer on social media. Skenes was picked first by the Pirates in the 2023 MLB draft.

Dunne, meanwhile, has recently been on vacation in Mexico and shared pictures of her riding a horse on the beach in a bikini.

The Pirates are 26-30 after Wednesday's win. Skenes' next game will fall next week in a fascinating showdown against Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
